Benefits of Protein Supplements

Protein Supplements have been used for decades for a variety of reasons.  They’re convenient and easy, and give us the ability to fill our protein requirements in a (usually) tasty treat.   For those who are looking to change their body composition whether it be increasing muscle mass or losing unwanted body fat, there’s not doubt that a good Protein Supplement can help you reach your goals faster.  Lets take a look at some of the benefits of amino acids and protein.

For those trying to gain lean muscle, increasing  protein intake can help create a positive nitrogen balance in the body, which helps stimulate  muscle growth.  This small shift can help add pounds of lean body mass if proper exercise is maintained.  Not only can proper protein supplementation help create an ideal environment for muscle growth, but it can also help muscles recover in between workouts. This is especially useful for athletes or people with aggressive fitness goals because of their increased protein requirements.

Making sure that you are eating a well balanced diet is the key to reaching your fitness goals, but including a meal replacement or a good whey protein can help you eliminate “empty” calories and ensure you are getting all of your BCAA’s(Branched Chain Amino Acids).  Protein requirements vary from person to person depending on a number of factors but the recommended daily intake is approximately .8 g/kg  of body weight.  It should be said that most athletes and bodybuilders will most likely need  1.0-2.0 g/kg of body weight.

Protein supplements are one of the most used dietary supplements out on the market today, simply because they work.

Nitric Oxide Creatines

NO2 and creatine products have burst on the bodybuilding scene as the best legal muscle enhancing supplements around.  When used properly, nitric oxide creatine has been shown to boost strength, increase lean body mass, and has the ability to give the user a huge pump at the gym.  Nitirc oxide supplements are one of my favorite supplements, and are incorporated into my routines often because they have so many positive effects for people involved in regular exercise.

What does nitric oxide do?

Nitric oxide creatine products help relax blood vessels making them larger.  This allows more oxygen and nutrient into the muscles allowing greater performance during exercise, and greater recovery during rest periods.  When the blood vessels relax and blood is pushed into your muscles it is called a “pump”.  Having your muscles fully pumped will not only help focus you mentally, but also provide your muscle with all the necessary tools to grow larger and more dense.

What is in nitric oxide creatine?

The main ingredient in no2′s is the amino acid l-arganine.  This amino acid promotes the production of nitric oxide in the muscles helping with overall endurance and strength. Most nitric oxide creatine products out now usually combined l-arganine, arginine alpha-ketoglutarate, and different types of creatines to make these supplements as effective and anabolic as possible.  They can also be combined with caffeine and other stimulants to help improve workouts as well.

Nitric oxide creatine is a great to push through a plateau or accomplish that goal that has been just out of reach.  Cycling this product correctly will provide your body with the resources necessary to have an awesome workout, and will also provide the necessary nutrients to recover from that workout.  For more information on nitric oxide products please check out other articles and blogs, or ask our e-Trainer for your supplement program.

Protein Supplements 101

Most of the people I talk to about supplements whether, they are a college athlete or a soccer mom, know very little about dietary supplements, let alone how to use them. The most frequent question I get asked by friends and people at the gym is, “what supplements do I take to build muscle?”. I figured that this would be the most appropriate place to start for the first official Excellsupplements blog.

The three most basic supplements that can be taken for building muscle are

1) Whey Protein

2) Creatine/NO2

3) Glutamine

These three supplements have been tested again and again and have been found safe and effective for almost everyone. Since protein supplements are the cornerstone of a good muscle building program I decided to dedicate this blog to how to best utilize a protein, and then touch base on Creatine, no2, and glutamine next time.

That being said, Its obvious that in order to get all of the benefits from these needed supplements you must take them correctly. Here is a breakdown of what in my opinion is the best way to utilize a protein supplement:

Protein-

Getting a good protein supplement is one of the most crucial parts to a good healthy lifestyle. This macronutrient is needed for essential functions, and is vital for the building and repair of muscle. The human body cannot actually store protein, so it must consumed consistently throughout the day. Making sure that you The best time to take a Whey Protein is:

-After your workout- This is the most important time to make sure you are getting all of the essential amino acids that your body needs. After any physical exercise your body is looking to replenish what it’s lost, and whey protein supplements has been made for just that scenario.

-Before bed- Some people are going to argue this, but I believe that if you are looking to build muscle, you must get some type of protein before you go to sleep. Casein protein or other slow digesting protein supplements are best at this time to ensure that your body reatains a positive nitrogen balance(not burning muscle) throughout the night.

-Before your workout- This doesn’t have to be a protein supplement, but its good to have something with essential amino acids about and hour and a half before your workout, to ensure that your muscles are in an anabolic state. (Taking supplements like creatine and protein before and after your workouts is called bracketing)

I know this is pretty simple stuff but I hope that some of you found this informative and useful for your fitness goals. In my opinion getting a good Whey protein supplement is necessary for anyone planning doing any type of regular exercise…and I’m going to be honest, I hope that’s everyone.
